Native Instruments FM8 is a virtual synthesizer that starts off where the legendary Yamaha DX series of hardware synthesizers left off and then takes the sound of FM synthesis to a new level. The software goes far beyond just emulation - it adds distortion and filter operators, extensive modulation capabilities, a comprehensive effects section, audio input and much more to what was the traditional FM architecture.

An "Easy Edit Page" is a central aspect of the software and provides a clearly designed interface with simple controls that adjust more complex parameters automatically, allowing the user to take a far more musical approach to FM synthesis. The more detailed editing pages have been improved for easier handling and are all accessible with a single click.

A sound morphing feature provides a "vector-style" interface. Sounds can be dragged and dropped directly from the KoreSound Browser onto the four corners of the interface and the current preset can then be '"morphed" with the timbres of the additionally selected sounds. The movements can of course be automated.

A programmable arpeggiator offers a matrix of up to thirty-two steps and functions just like a step sequencer. An enhanced effects section features twelve effects, including a phaser flanger, tremolo, reverb and pitch-able delay. The FM8 also reads the complete sound library from the classic FM synthesizers.

The KoreSound Browser and KORE
All 900 presets have been pre-configured for use with KORE and categorised as KoreSounds. The KoreSound Browser brings a high degree of simplicity and speed to the task of finding and managing presets. Browse and filter according to a number of different sonic criteria and attributes or just enter a keyword or phrase in the free search mode - the results are displayed instantly.

Morphing sounds
The sound morphing feature is incredibly simple yet unbelievably powerful. Just drag'n'drop sounds directly from the KoreSound Browser onto the four corners and you can now 'morph' your current preset with the timbres of the additional sounds you selected. The movements can of course be automated. An ingeniously creative way of designing completely new and fluctuating sounds.

Programmable arpeggiator
The powerful, programmable arpeggiator offers a matrix of up to 32 steps. Similar to a step sequencer, it automatically adds explosive patterns and accents to the notes you play - instantly instilling your productions with that extra edge.

High-end effects
In addition to the original FM7's effects, the FM8's new rack includes over 10 new effects: from talk wah, phaser and flanger to tremolo, reverb and pitch-able delay - it's all in there. The effects rack allows you to add your personal touch to any sound. From pristine and pure to the roughest, dirtiest sonic creations, these effects take the FM8 way beyond the stereotypical sound of FM synthesis.
