RME Multiface 2

 offers the best possible performance in terms of low-latency operation and CPU load, due to its PCI interface, which still surpasses current technologies like FireWire. Reason enough to apply the latest technological developments to an update of the Multiface, thus making a proven product even better.

The new Multiface II stays 100% compatible with the current model's firmware and driver. It offers the same set of features, settings, and the same low-latency, zero-CPU-load performance.

Some significant changes were made to the electrical circuitry, where several features of the Fireface have been incorporated:

  • Hi-power headphone output with volume knob and 119 dBA SNR
  • Analog input stages with improved CMRR, lower THD and increased S/N ratio by almost 10 dB
  • Analog output stages with significantly lower THD
  • The now synchronized and more effective internal switching power supply has been taken from RME's OctaMic.
  • The reference level of the analog inputs and outputs can now be changed with two separate switches on the front panel, and no longer requires changing an internal jumper setting.

    RME HDSPe PCI

     is the desktop computer component of the system. RME HDSPe PCI is not based on a PCI to PCI Express bridge, which would simply add PCIe to existing PCI technology. RME HDSPe PCI is a genuine PCI Express solution, which consequently takes full advantage of the format, achieving significant performance gains in multitrack audio. RME's flash update technology ensures future firmware improvements, adjustments, and bugfixes to be installed easily at any time.

    The connection between PCIe card and I/O box is established using ordinary firewire cable (IEEE 1394, 6-pole). The data transfer does not use Firewire protocol, but RME's own proprietary bus protocol. The supplied cable is 4.5 m (15 ft.) long, a cable length up to 15 m (48 ft.) has been successfully tested.
