Alesis ADAT HD24 by Adelaide |
Date Added: 03/03/2010 |
This Alesis ADAT HD24 recorder has great sound and has saved us a great deal of work and cost associated with taking audio off of BetaSP. Although, the Alesis ADAT HD24 unit is not "fancy" to look, I love this one.

Very simple and easy to features. This unit was made to be used with an external editor (hence, the ethernet i/o and firewire option). The ability to transfer your files as WAV or AIFF is a great option. Built in ADAT light pipe interface is a plus for those with digital i/o in their consoles. The double HD bays makes it easy to go from one "reel" to another. There are many more features...too many to mention. I'm going to purchase another one in the near future.

It’s so easy to use… I have never tracked for this many hours without some computer-related issue cropping up… Rock-solid operation… Great on-board sound… Record-breaking affordability of the media… I don’t need another recorder for a long time

Listen the sound is very, very good. I started my studio career with analogue-the first portastudio;4, 8, and 16 channel Tascams-moved to ADATS and now have gone on to computer and the HD24. The guy who talked about RADAR is a freakin' anus. We know thats a great unit but it costs 3x as much. Be fair.

One of my main reasons for this purchase is to record up to 24 tracks live simultaneously and then transfer the tracks to my laptop for editing and mixing. The FTP Server Utility is great, but slow. As long as you have time to wait on the data transfer, this works fine. If you're in a hurry, the Fireport option device might be a good investment. I haven't purchased the Fireport yet, but if the 2 hour 24 track gigs keep coming I'll definitely order one.
I'm surprised my ADATs have lasted 12 years and they're still in good working order. The HD24 should last at least that long physically, but I'm sure it'll be obsolete functionally within less than 5 years. As soon as laptops and their corresponding interfaces can do 24 to 32 tracks live simultaneously and reliably the need for the HD24 will not be required. Although it would remain a good backup medium.

Excellent sound recording. You can get closest to the analog tape sound you want. The rack is 3U mount and doesn’t take up much space. Hard disk connection is good in ensuring best connectivity. It’s really a Master piece of Audio Recording equipments.

In 2 years of service we have had no problems. I have had 300 pairs of hands on both (it is installed at a community college recording facility) NO Breakdowns! I will be buying another unit for a remote recording rig. No questions asked...

So far so good. No problems what so ever. I love the fact that I can buy extra caddies & Hard drives, and store complete projects on hard drives rather than clutter my shelves with dozens of SVHS tapes. I work with PTHD in studio and am used to some pretty nice sounding gear, however the HD24 is used for remote recording and the sonic quality of the tracks we record is excellent compared to other products in the price point.
