This small, portable package packs up nicely with my laptop, and can be used for live recording. I also use it for home studio recording and it works flawlessly. What's more, this unit works great for live 2 channel stereo recording, and is an excellent (and very flexible) starter package for home-studio recording.

I think Alesis IO 2 is a good choice. I used it for one live recoding, and Alesis IO 2 did a good job. I love this one very much.

Alesis io|2 is very stylish... The plated colors, the round aspect, the styled buttons and faders, I like it a lot! It has everything I want for my small home/mobile studio: 2 mic input, pre-amp or 2 line-in for guitar, 2 inserts, midi, ASIO, direct monitoring, USB connection.

3Cs to describe the Alesis IO 2: it is Convinient- just add a Computer and that is Complete.It has 2 mic input, 24-bit S/PDIF I/O for direct digital recording,Ultra low-latency ASIO 2.0 drivers ,USB connection...; It is the perfect product for me ,who always confused before digital items.Besides, I really like its aluminium housing, inviting & fasioned color.

It has everything I want for my small home/mobile studio: 2 mic input, pre-amp or 2 line-in for guitar, 2 inserts, midi, ASIO, direct monitoring, USB connection. I think it's a very good choice. I'm enjoying it a lot. Alesis did a great job and I think it can compete with others rivals such as m-audio, or tascam.

Strengths: Easy to use, portable package. USB powered, Cubase LE Included. Hardware direct monitoring with USB signal mix. 2 Phantom Powered Mic Inputs, 2 Instrument/Guitar/Line Inputs. Weaknesses: I would rather have an 8 input mixer with the same feature set. Or maybe a $1,000 hardware recorder. However, at this price I can't find fault with the Alesis IO|2. Summary:The Alesis IO|2 is my best choice. Furthermore, many units don't offer the real-time hardware monitoring and mix (hardware monitor / USB Audio) capabilities that this unit offers. Buyer beware! Check out the other brand's specifications before purchasing.
