when i got it I used it for 5 minutes to work fine and then the thing played nothing but staticsome buzzing a strange beeping and fuzz. Had this for a few months and still find it hard to use,and especially hard to read the display unles at EXACTALLY the right angle.

sounds great, very portable, very handy in recording or jamming situations - and man its really got some grooves and alot of times that is inspiration enough to come up with things that you would not think of without a beat, and not just any beat....a good beat makes you wanna play better. its a valuable practice tool as well. i hate the click click of metronomes, so this thing is for me. you can practice your ass off to get your chops going down and pretty much any sane tempo. so yeah, id say its a very good machine. you want some drums for PC recording? a drummer for live jams with your friend? a practice partner that can really keep the tempo/beat? it's in there

This was the first drum machine I owned, and while I don't miss the sounds, I do miss that fill button. If you're just looking for a fun, easy to use drum machine, get this one. If you're making "serious" tracks, you'd be better of spending the money for better sounds. It's hard to mix some of these sounds into professional mixes because of the built in cheap effects. I'd rather have dry samples that I can mold, but when I first got this it was used heavily in my one man jam sessions. I ended up selling it along with the rest of my cheapo toys when I decided I wanted to get more into the technical aspects of recording. Even though I may have a much better sound now, I do in a way miss the ability to midi my toys up and beat the crap out of them. Why isn't the professional gear as much fun to play with? Imagine the MPC with a fill button...seriously, I want to design a drum machine just so I can put a fill button on it.

this machine is not terribly hard to use. i'm pretty sure alesis originally created this thing to market to non-electronic musician types. if you're used to electronic music, you'll find this easy to use... but maybe sometimes too easy. if you're not used to electronic music, you'll probably find programming a chore until you really get the hang of it.

This is a killer drum machine....... you can control just about everything from the pedals (aside from changing the pattern in between songs) Very good for live performance. DJ'S _ _ _ Do NOT get this drum machine, it is not good for electronic drums at all!! Just a warning, because I have seen many complaints about this machine because people expected it to do something that it couldn't do. The SR-16 is clearly designed for acoustic drum applications..... it is great for rock, soft rock, jazz, country, and is also pretty good for latin and caribbean rhythms. But it is not good at electonic drums, techno, dance, etc. It could use some effects besides the ones in the samples themselves.... but if you're looking for a great sounding, easy to use, rock or jazz drum machine. The Alesis SR-16 is for you!

Have owned the SR-16 for 1 years and finished numerous home studio projects with it. It has been great so far I have had no problems with it and have no complaints. I did have trouble at first the buttons are a bit too hard to push, later, i read the manual and could adjust it to my liking. I love it. i think it is a fabulous tool for any musician.

I received my SR-16 a day ago and was immedietly impressed by all the features it can do. It is a little complicated to use at first, and will take a long time to discover everything. But if you can read the informative manuel carefully, you will produce your own rythms and sounds in minutes. It is a good tool to have for jamming or even recording drum tracks. For the price and the sound quality, i say this is the best buy for a drum machine.
