Arturia CS-80V Software Synthesizer is a software reproduction of the mythical Yamaha CS-80, which is considered by many as the ultimate polyphonic synthesizer. More than 25 years after its release, the time has come to rediscover a sound that has extensively contributed to the history of music.
The Arturia CS-80V offers all the features of the original synth, plus a new generation of innovative features, taking the original design to a new elevated level: a modulation matrix, a multitimbral mode, an arpeggiator, and a stereo delay.
The synthesizer is based on TAE, the proprietary technology developed by Arturia, and already successfully used in the Moog Modular V. The Arturia CS-80V comes loaded with more than 400 presets made by a selection of talented sound designers.
In 1976, Yamaha introduced the CS-80. The price tag put it out of reach of most musicians, and the weight (220 lbs.) made it sometimes hard to use on the stage. But the qualities of the CS-80, considered as Japan's first great synthesizer, made it famous in the music industry. The CS-80 was popularized in the late '70s and early '80s by artists and groups like Toto, Jean-Michel Jarre, Keith Emerson, Stevie Wonder, or Vangelis, who helped to turn this synthesizer into a giant. | Features | | Stereo recreation of Yamaha's famous CV-80 synthesizer

I was really impressed by the depth of sound - there are sooooo many controls to deal with... it took a bit to get used to the layout, but it is true to the original in that regard :) Also, a bit of a CPU hog - but it's sound is really lush and worth it.

The CS80V is a great synth if you want the classic analogue sounds, more powerful than the Minimoog V and Prophet 53 and easier to tweak out than the Moog Modular V (all, also good VST synths). If you only want or can afford one this is a great choice. Highly recommended.

In case you haven’t noticed, I’m full on excited about this synth. At first I had my doubts, as the Moog Modular V was the virtual analog centerpiece of my studio. But the CS-80V has made me a true believer in its distinctive voice. Whether for studio or live use, you would be hard pressed to find a more responsive or expressive synthesizer. Of course, this newfound power does not come cheap, as the CS-80V can be very CPU intensive. But I consider its sonic potential to be more than worth it – and I am not alone. When reading up on the accolades collected on the Arturia website, I was struck by a quote from Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Hans Zimmer: “I just sold my Yamaha GX1 because I have a great replacement with Arturia's CS-80V.” That pretty much sums it up. For a well thought-out analog emulation that takes its musical capability several leaps forward, look no further than Arturia’s CS-80V.
