Unlike past Variax models, the JTV-69 USA features a set of real custom-wound pickups. These pickups (arranged in the H/S/S configuration that's popular for rock and metal) have been designed by James Tyler and built to his specifications. With no Variax technology onboard, the JTV-69 USA itself is a custom-quality instrument.With top-of-the-line Variax technology, you can add serious playing power to the JTV-69 USA. This system lets you reshape your sound and retune your guitar with only the turn of a dial or two, allowing you change your tuning and/or guitar model in an instant. Just twist the tone-selector dial on the JTV-69 USA and jump from a 6-string solidbody to a 12-string acoustic, or from a bold humbucker configuration to a snappy single-coil setup. And applying alternate tunings, such as drop tuning or open tuning, is just as easy. The JTV-69 USA has a second selector wheel up at the neck that lets you switch among 11 tunings at once without altering the feel or the tension of your strings.
