01/06/2008 - This easy-to-use hardware and software package delivers everything it promises--and more. Setup took only a few minutes, and I was recording within an hour. There are plenty of guitar effects, and though I wish there was more variety with the good-sounding drums, you can go to Line 6's online site to get an expanded package. What's especially great is that the Riff Tracker automatically keeps laying down new tracks or "layers" so that you can keep playing until you get your riff perfect, and then go back later to modify guitar effects, drums, etc. for the final mix. What really surprised me is that you can also record anything into this gadget: not only the obvious (such as bass guitar), but also a keyboard (and thus get piano, organ, synth, etc.), but also a microphone (and thus get acoustic guitar, vocals, or anything else you can think of). This makes it a really easy-to-use multi-track recorder and burner. For this price? Unbelievable! This thing is fantastic--a real breakthrough in recording technology. I'm having a lot of fun experimenting and capturing new ideas on the run. If you want to get into recording guitar (or anything else!), this is it!

05/02/2007 - The guitarport does a really good job with high gain sounds. There are a few good clean sounds to be found with it too. I mainly got this with the intention of recording demos on the computer and it does a really good job of that. It is also really easy to record two tracks over each other (but using different pickups). After the volume levels are appropriately adjusted, the resulting sound sounds very close to professional level recordings. The instant drummer doesn't record sound as good on recordings. It doesn't have as much low end kick or high highs as I would like. But if you don't want the instant drummer in your recordings you can very easily turn it off. I don't like the effects as much and tend to prefer stompboxes over them.

04/08/2007 - I've been playing piano/keyboards for over 30 years and began playing guitar about 15 years ago. My style of music is an eclectic mix of symphonic electronic and progressive rock. Imagine Vangelis and Camel with some Hackett thrown in. I am currently recording a CD which I hope to release within the next year and a half. I have nothing but praise for the GuitarPort. It's extremely easy to use and sounds fantastic. But, learn how to work it and learn its limitations. For instance, do not expect to bring the GP and your laptop to your band's practice and expect it to sound like your "real" amp rig. C'mon! When I hear those comments they make me cringe. Use the GP as it was extended to be used and you will love it!

01/23/2007 - The GuitarPort RiffTracker is actually a two-piece home recording package, the hardware part being the GuitarPort and the software portion being RiffWorks. The GuitarPort is used for modeling various guitar setups (like the POD XT) and getting your modeled sounds into your computer, and RiffWorks is used for recording licks and putting songs together. The box says "All You Need To Record Guitar", and aside from a reasonable computer, that's entirely true.
