I bought one last month and i really love it. I was amazed at how the Line 6 was able to cop the tones. Since the Line 6 is digital it is also super quiet. You can get a right on Les Paul tone or Fender Strat without any extra noise. You can flip from a Telecaster to a big bodied acoustic to a chimey Rickenbacker 12 string with absolute authenticity. it is a better sounding LesP aul than the Les Paul.

As I said...I've got this thing running into a PODxt Live, and then into a Power Engine 60 (Tech 21). It's the perfect rig for a POD because the amp is a transparent amp and it becomes the amp you send into it. With the variax, you litterally have any rig you want. I've been playing for 6 years, starting with classical guitar, and then moving into more of a lead position. I began realizing that the tone of my rig was a very important thing...and so I'm so pleased with everything that I have been able to do with my rig. The Variax has made an incredible difference beyond anything that I could have had previously. I get some tremendous sounds, and I'm not sure if it's dead on, but I get a tone I like...not because it sounds specifically like this or that...but because the individual tone is great. This guitar is about tone...and it does tone well. It looks great, plays great...and everyone who has picked up this guitar has been really astounded by it's sound and it's playability. I would love to have a black 600 as my back up/change out guitar. It'd be pretty great. All in all...I guess that I just love this guitar. I love the feel, I love the sounds...I love every aspect of it. The only drawback is that you can't just plug in and go. You have to have the pedal (which as to be plugged in) or you have to have the POD, or you have to have batteries (which I haven't run yet)... That's the only drawback to it just being a guitar that you can just take and plug in and sound great. It sounds great, but you have to work for it a bit.

I used to have a 300, but it doesn't work. i bought the 600 3 months ago. It's cool and clean. The “Lester” setting does sound exactly like a Les Paul. I still use my old Les Paul from time to time, but the Variax is really the better guitar for quick transitions between songs.
