M-Audio have made an incredible piece of gear at an incredible price. Anyone looking for a control surface will want to check it out. The fact that it supports ProTools is a big plus for anyone looking to dabble with the "industry standard". In short, it packs a mighty punch and in my opinion beats out any other control surface/interface out there.

When I went out in to the Rock 'N' Roll world as a Live FOH Engineer I never imagined that I would be Recording Gigs. But theres always one band that will ask you to record their Gig. And of coarse you won't say no. When I bought the project Mix I/O i taught 'what the……..' but never imagined it would be so easy to use. With 8 analog input channels all feature ¼" balanced and XLR microphone inputs with individual mic/line switches. Of course, phantom power is provided for up to eight condenser mics I had it set-up in 10 mins by connecting it to the direct outs on the main FOH desk. And using the M-Audio 8-channel Octane preamp connected via the optical connection on the Project Mix I instantly had a 16 channel live recording studio. When the gig was over and I had brought it home and had plugged in to my M-Audio BX8a Studio Monitors, Using Cubase SX 3 I had it mixed and on CD in no time due to the Motorized Touch- sensitive Faders. The motorized touch-sensitive faders on the Project Mix I/O's eight channel strips and master strip make for seamless mix automation. And touch sensitivity means that when you touch a fader in motion, it immediately disengages for manual control and re-engages automation when you release. This provides for both smoother operation and the elimination of motor burnout prevalent in older technologies. The Project Mix's faders also feature higher resolution than other control surfaces in its price range. In a Whole the Project Mix I/O seems to have virtually no limitations except those imposed by using a mouse to do the job of dedicated hardware. The Project Mix I/O finally puts all that tactile control back under your fingertips. It also combines that control with M-Audio's acclaimed FireWire audio interface technology, eliminating clutter while integrating everything you need to transform your computer-based music system into a full-fledged digital audio workstation. To be honest when I first purchased this item I thought there had to be something wrong. "This price with motorized faders" plus a sound card. I`m using the project mix with Pro Tools M-powered and once I got through the workstation not recognizing the device thinking I wasted my money. You see a eleven hundred dollars is just to much to just give up on the project mix. Needless to say when I got it up an running watching those faders fly made me feel like I was Dr. Dre Behind the boards, now I cant stay out of my studio I`ve already completed 38 songs start to finish and am in the process of inking a deal. The project mix played an important role in this process. I really suggest purchasing this item if you can afford to.

The Project Mix I/O is easy to learn set up and use, all the buttons light up, the faders are motorized, it's a dream. Take one look at it and you will be in love too. Best purchase I've ever made.
