PreSonus ADL 600 Microphone Preamp is a high voltage two-channel original microphone preamplifier. PreSonus ADL 600 was designed by Anthony DeMaria with a no-holds-barred signal path. Control and Flexibility

PreSonus ADL 600 is designed for ultimate sonic performance, however its ease of use and flexibility allowing for many types of input sources further sets it above all other preamplifiers. The input selector allows for selection between Hi-Z instrument input, line input and four different microphone impedances for a wide variety of sounds and applications. The High Pass Filter is a rotary switch with three filter settings (40Hz, 80Hz, and 120Hz @ 6dB per octave) for passively and unobtrusively controlling room rumble and low frequency noise. The input gain attenuator is a military-grade rotary switch delivering 5dB step increments and a total preamplifier gain of over 72dB. The output stage is controlled by a fully variable conductive plastic attenuator delivering +/-10dB of fine tune trim adjustment to "dial-in" the perfect gain structure for the application at hand. The ADL 600 also includes 48V phantom power and a -20dB pad both controlled by big sturdy military grade switches.

Under the Hood

PreSonus ADL 600 is built with the finest components available in the world. The ADL 600 is a fully discrete transformer input and output Class A design incorporating three military-grade vacuum tubes per channel operating at voltages of +/-300V power rails for maximum tube tonality and headroom. There are no op-amps or integrated circuits (IC's) in the signal path to ensure the purest sound possible. The dual transformer design also ensures ultra low noise operation with maximum common mode rejection.

Metering

PreSonus ADL 600 is loaded with both fast-acting eight-segment LED meters for accurately detecting fast transients and peaks, as well as large high quality analog VU meters for metering output level.

01/14/2012 - I recently used the ADL 600 on Justin Timberlake’s vocal tracks... it has a real cool "Now Sound" to it. I’m also running most of my mixes through it. The ADL 600 is happening! I have one at my studio and at Timbaland's.

09/21/2011 - I have plenty of preamps that are accurate. But when I need tonality and character for digital recording, the PreSonus ADL 600 is number one in my studio arsenal. I get big, rich acoustic guitars with that distinctive, girthy tube character, but also with amazing detail and clarity. And I get full, warm drum overheads that maintain the harmonic center of the cymbals, with headroom for miles. In fact, it's so balanced, I find myself not needing EQ at all. PreSonus has come through with a great preamp that delivers all the color - without missing the details. In my book, that's big.

10/17/2010 - For big-studio results on a (stretched) home-studio budget, the ADL 600 is a really great option. It gives you about 90% of what’s offered by boxes costing almost twice as much. Because it provides performance beyond what’s expected at this price, it deserves a Key Buy award.

09/21/2010 - The ADL is the finest vocal preamp I have ever used. The sense of space and dimension, the smooth high end and rich low mids made for perfect vocal tracks every time. I loved the tiny bit of squeeze the tubes put on the track, and I liked the pre most when we pushed the LED meters to just over the zero mark for better saturation. Wonderful! Kick and snare, by the way, were absolutely ridiculous. Drum tracks when perfect to tape and as long as we did not push the pre into distortion, which was never really a problem because there is so much super clean output gain!
