firewire audio interface is a compact however powerful FireWire recording system with the ability to record and playback six inputs and ten outputs simultaneously at professional-grade 24-bit/96k resolution. PreSonus Firebox has the highest record/playback track count of its size with the ability to record six inputs and playback through ten outputs at the same time and all at pro-quality 24-bit/96kHz.

PreSonus Firebox is a personal recording studio combining two high quality PreSonus microphone/instrument preamplifiers, 24-Bit/96k sample rate and Steinberg's Cubase LE 48-track recording software. Two ultra-low noise high-headroom microphone/instrument preamplifiers with 48V phantom power are used on the front panel for connecting your favorite microphones without difficulty.

PreSonus Firebox also comes with a high quality stereo headphone output with volume adjustment on the front panel. Two-channel driver stream can be used as a separate stereo bus or two-channel output giving you the ability to send a "cue" mix to the headphone output and a main mix to the main output present in its headphone output.

Two additional balanced TRS line inputs are positioned on the rear of the PreSonus Firebox with six balanced TRS line outputs. Two channels of S/PDIF input/output and MIDI input/output are attached through DB9 breakout cable. The 1/3U-wide metal chassis of the FIREBOX is designed to fit the MAXRACK rack-mounting system from PreSonus and can be racked with the TubePRE, COMP16, EQ3B and HP4 for neat and compact computer recording system.

PreSonus Firebox works with both four and six-pin FireWire (IEEE 1394) connectors and can be powered by either 6-pin FireWire bus power, or powered by an external power transformer. The Windows XP and Macintosh compatible FIREBOX comes ready-to-record with Steinberg's Cubase LE 48-track 24-bit/96K recording software, and is also compatible with many popular ASIO/WDM and Core Audio based applications including Logic, Sonar, Audition, Digital Performer and others. A software router/mixer is included for supplementary flexibility and power.

DSP Mixer Included

The PreSonus Firebox features a Zero-Latency DSP mixer that allows you to mix all six live inputs with a software output stream, then route that mix to any one of its outputs and assigns that mix or a software output stream to its headphone amplifier. This feature eliminates monitoring through the computer and makes it easy to customize a mix for the artist. It also allows CUEING for DJ's and live performance where the headphone output can monitor an utterly diverse signal than the MAIN outputs.

01/08/2008 - Feels very solid. Controls seem durable. If your curious who the firebox compares to the other presonus firewire boxes, then you'll be happy to know that the same quality pre-amps and circuitry was used from the bigger brother components. If you look at the reviews of other Presonus Firewire components, you'll see a lot of good reviews.

09/13/2006 - It is very curious that how this small and cheap audio interface sounds so nice including its pristine Mic. Preamps. Actually, I have never heard about this company in my country, I found that Presonus is famous preamplifier manufacturer in United States. I bought Firebox this week for several bands's vocal and guitar recording. Honestly, before I bought this, I thought that I would return after recording bands, but I will keep this one and bring my country. This is portable and simple look, but presonus put technologies reasonably into this small box. Sounds color are Clean, Crisp, and Clear. Generally High sounds with nice head room. Do not hesitate for buying this one if you are not working for the professional studio works. Save money and enjoy with this one.
