So I decided to lay down a drum track with my new drum samples. Armed a midi track in Cubase and away I went. Laid down a cool groove, quantized, etc. Better. Timing is perfect. As good as hardware and even better than an MPC due to the high ppqn inherent in Cubase. No hesitation whatsoever. Tight. Only thing is, I'm getting some distortion for some reason. Have the thing set for only 32 voices so I don't know what the prob is. Might due to the fact that I have my Motu set at only 4ms of latency. I'll have to play around with it some more. I will note here that samples do not sound as good playing back in Cubase as they do in SoundForge. This is not headline news. Cubase users have suspected for a LONG time that the audio engine in VST is not top shelf and this further validates that suspicion. Hopefully Cubase SX (VST successor based on Nuendo engine) will resolve this. If you're interested, the sound is not as crisp and as defined as it was in Sound Forge OR Recycle for that matter. I don't think this is on HALion, I think this is on Cubase

This sampler is amazing if you are into creating your own sampled voices. For starters importing wave files is piss-easy. I have been constructing a multi sampled bass for HALion which I have sampled at 24 96, You can drag your recorded wavs right in from the host sequencer, this is a god send. if you are a giga studio or kontakt user (or just about any other smapler user)and want to do this forget about it. In giga studio every sample must have a root key specified first or the the samples name must be added ie; Bb4.Then the 'Wizard " will map them for you. In Halion you drag them where you want them and a root key is automatically assigned. As the sample folders and the FXP files (for HALion) are seperate entities you can batch edit the sample folders in any program that doesent change the name of the file. When you have 650 wave files that you want to apply a fade out to this is very handy. In giga studio you may only edit one file at a time in an external editor.
