Open and test, works great. Small cosmetic imperfection.
The TASCAM DR-40X portable handheld recorder can capture up to four tracks of high-resolution audio with no additional microphones required for podcasts, sound effects, and music recording applications. Its integrated unidirectional condenser microphones may be configured for a broad or tight stereo picture and can be utilized in conjunction with the mic/line combination inputs. The DR-40X can handle everything from sample sessions and interviews to podcasts and live events when utilized as a portable device or in stand- or camera-mounted configurations.
The DR-40X’s versatile charging options—batteries, USB bus power, or an AC adapter—make it ideal for on-the-go recording, all-day video shoots, and computer-based audio production. Do you need to connect external microphones or an outboard mixer? The DR-40X’s two balanced XLR-1/4″ inputs accept mic- or line-level signals (including +4 dBu from professional consoles) and may provide phantom power if required. Selectable modes such as stereo safety track recording, peak reduction, limiting, and auto level provide you options for creating a clear, undistorted recording whether you utilize the built-in mics or an external source.
Connect the DR-40X via USB to your Mac/Windows computer or iOS smartphone for bidirectional audio routing in real time. The DR-40X may be used as a USB microphone or 2-in/2-out audio interface for your preferred audio program once it has been detected and configured. When connected via USB, the DR-40X may operate as a card reader for easy file transfers.
The DR-40X is a light, portable device that is both small and portable. When carried in the hand or put in a pocket, the sleek body is quite pleasant to use. Set the side-panel hold switch to “on” in certain circumstances to prevent accidental button presses. To mount the DR-40X on a mic stand or tripod for steady, stationary orientation, use the 1/4″-20 threaded hole on the underside of the device. Alternatively, you may connect the provided tilt foot to stop the onboard microphones from being too low when you place the device bottom side down.
When utilized with the mic/line inputs, the integrated condenser microphones of the DR-40X provide stereo capture or 2 x stereo capture. Loud concerts won’t be an issue for sources providing sound pressure levels up to 125 dB. The DR-40X incorporates movable unidirectional microphones, as opposed to the DR-05X’s fixed A-B configuration of omnidirectional microphones. The unidirectional microphones reduce the amount of sound picked up as it enters from the back of the capsules, producing a tone that is more concentrated and has fewer reflections.
With all of these features, you can see why the TASCAM DR-40X is one of the most popular selling portable recorders on the market.
