Audix D4

Dynamic Instrument Microphone follows in the tradition of the first three D microphones, with a completely new design that should knock engineers and drummers for a loop when they hear and see it. Audix D4 is a Dynamic Microphone with a hypercardioid pattern and a frequency response of 38Hz-19kHz. Audix D4 Uses an entirely new capsule specially designed to capture high SPL instruments with extended frequencies below 100Hz. Audix D4's sub-impulse technology captures lows better than other mics for truer sound imaging. Audix D4 has not only great low end response, but is a full range microphone with extreme clarity and detail. This makes Audix D4 the most versatile mic in the Audix D series.

Hyper-Cardioid Polar Pattern

The hyper-cardioid polar pattern of Audix D4 is effective in eliminating noise and ambiance at the off-axis sections of the microphone.

Contoured Mid-Bass Frequency Response

The D2 features a frequency response of 44Hz to 18kHz. A mid-range bump accentuates the tonal response of floor toms, congas and more, the natural low frequency roll-off reduces noise.

High SPL Handling

The D2 can accurately handle signals with sound pressure levels registering at 144dB. Transient peaks are reproduced without distortion due to overload.

02/08/2012 - Am a pro sound guy for 25 years and I thought until about a month ago that the Audix D6 was the end-all and be-all kick drum mic'. Surprise, surprise Goober! The D4 has all the "kick" of the D6 and almost as much "thump" (bottom). It's got this great sort-of compressed kind of sound goin' on that I'm crazy about... I've done hard-rock, southern-rock, reggae and even modern jazz with it and with slight E.Q. changes it fits everything! Save some bucks and BUY IT!

10/19/2011 - I usually use this mic on my floor tom (I have an ATae2500 & 4047 on kick). It is deep and powerful sounding. I've tried it on my bass (mesa boogie into ampeg cabinets) I liked it, but not as much as the AT4047. I fear that I'll need to get another because the kick sound is perfect for modern rock. Plenty of cool click sounds with menacing low end strength. If your on the fence- just do it. This is great mic!!

02/07/2011 - This is primarily a floor tom mic. I bought a pair together on Ebay for $130. I believe its hyper-cardiod. I used these recently to mic rack toms (which alot of other people don't like them for), and put an AKG D112 on the floor (which gave a HUGE 808 type of sound!). I would like to try some D2's for racks (which most people DO love) eventually but I got these on such a good deal and they are the only tom mics I have. These mics are pretty damn good. If you want a real percussive sound out of your toms then these are it. You get super attack and a lot of low end tone. They are perfect for heavy music and can make crappy toms sound like the dude from Tool was playing them. I was using an Audix D6 for the kick so I almost had too much click attack on the kit but it sounded good for the super heavy band I was recording. I angled them directly at the center of the toms but if you where to aim them more at the rim you might get less click. I would say these mics are primarily for hard rock and heavy music. If you are doing jazz or light rock go get some Sennheiser MD-421's or something (but you will have to pay over double for them than the D4's).

06/24/2010 - I had owned previously a shure beta 52 microphone for my bass kick. I had borrowed this microphone for a larger worship gathering and it just kicked butt. Now my drum system sounds fuller, because this mic produces very deep, rich, bass sounds. Ive purchased D4 now. A good buy!

05/25/2010 - This product sounds amazing! With a few minutes of tweaking on my board, the mic sounded so amazing! It is the only mic I use for bass drums and cabs anymore! If you have a couple hundred bucks, DEFINITELY go for this mic!! Two thumbs up!!
